Beautiful day, no big plans. Just the way I like it.
What I've accomplished so far today (prepare to be dazzled):
Started off with a bowl of these-
Did the dishes (My kitchen is so old-school, we don't even have a dishwasher. The horror!)
Made a few calls. "Hello, Fernando? Are you there? I wish you'd stop ignoring me. I miss you and how you always smell so smoky. Call me!"
Tried to figure out how to entertain two bored cats. Decided to let them figure it out- I'm too busy trying to entertain myself.
I'm trying to work up the energy to finish a gardening project. What does my "Lady of the dirt" think? Yes? No? Whatever. She's too busy having a staring contest with the hosta.
The rhubarb is HUGE. Maybe today I'll make deep-dish rhubarb cake. Best. Cake. Ever. With a mountain of real whipped cream it's perfect. How does today's modern woman get ready for summer, a.k.a. "bikini season?" Answer: Cake. Lots and lots of cake.
I think rhubarb is so pretty.
And delicious! Don't eat too much raw rhubarb, Whiskey! You don't want to get a case of the "rhubarb quick-step!"
Seriously, though. Fresh-picked rhubarb dipped in sugar, for me, is one of the top tastes of summer here in MN. Nothing else tastes anything like it.
I mowed my lawn (the grass, dirty birds. Not that "mowing of the lawn". Get your head out of the gutter) for the first time ever yesterday. Yes, I know I should probably be embarrassed that we've lived here almost 9 years and I've never done this, but honestly I consider it a personal victory that I've somehow managed to convince the Mr. to do it all these years. Hey- I cook. We like our traditional gender roles here in the WM household. We're like a 1950's couple that way, including the martinis.
But, I fear I may never perform this macho act ever again, as my hard work was rewarded with this:
Now I'm off to do whatever: gardening, cooking, reading magazines, getting a pedicure...
With all of this time off I really am quite the good little housewife.
I could get used to this.
Happy Friday, my little strawberry-rhubarb pies with ice cream and love. Happy Friday.
EWWW! You mowed the lawn! That is definitely what the Mr.'s are for honey.
You DESERVE that pedi.
Love the rotary wall phone!
Fernando isn't ignoring you - I bought him a flip cellphone and with those hooves he's always missing calls.
He's not much of a texter either.
Drool... oatmeal squares. Have you tried these? Oh so good!
Great post ; )
We don't have a dishwasher, either.
Rotary phone? Cool. Growing up, our phone number had all numbers 5 or higher...It always seemed like it took forever to dial the number!
I have an aversion to my once beloved rhubarb...I caught both my brothers peeing on it in the backyard. Never. Again.
I want to be your neighbor and maybe best friend so I can come have cake with whipped cream on top! Sounds like the perfect day.
This post got me questioning whether there is any food that you don't like? I'm not a fan of rhubarb, that's just me...
Also, sorry 'bout the blister.
Rhubarb! Yum. Where's my cake!
As for the dishwasher - we actually have one, but this is the first one I have ever owned and you know how old my sorry ass is.
However, I do have one comment...
you have a dial phone?
You are so retro chic WM! What happens when you call the credit card company? Do you just stay on the line???
I can't even look at the blister. Owwwww!
Your kitchen is all kinds of cute.
WOW! What a productive day. I love your phone- reminds me of my grandparents.
I love your "Lady of the Dirt." So much better than my mom's lame ass fake turtles.
i've been having a rhubarb fixation lately. i'm thinking of making a crisp soon.
and usually, i prefer washing dishes to a dishwasher washing dishes.
You shouldn't be mowing in your state anyway.
You're definitely showing already....could it possibly be....twins?? or
perhaps .........um quads??
(I have an amazing ability to see only what I want to see, believe what I want to believe. In nine months I will be seeing baby photos on this blog whether you like it or not!!)
I could go for some pie, too.
WM -- you can use MINE any time you like!
Is the "rhubarb quick-step" anything like the "green apple splatters?" I'll be waiting for pis of the pedicure. Privately, in my email I mean.
MMM...strawberry rhubarb pie. My grandma used to make that. I'm impressed that people like you exist that don't have white hair and can bake and garden.
Just stumbled across your blog and I am enjoying the pictures very much. Less reading.
I was just eyeing my rhubarb today and thinking it's almost pie time. Yummy.
We are old school too. No dishwasher here...although there are days when I dream of hiding the dirties in one. *sigh*
had to come back in case I gave you a complex or something - and caused you to get anorexia - of course you know that you really look gorgeously and enviably slim and beautiful? Not pregnant with multiples at all!!!
It's rhubarb time already? It must really be summer!
I too injured myself while working hard Friday. I broke a nail...while shopping. Sad, isn't it?
My house didn't come with a dishwasher, but it was the first thing I added to make life more livable. I am far too lazy to wash my own dishes.
My house also came with a rhubarb plant, but I have no idea what to do with it (or even how to know when it's ready if I did want to do something with it), so I just keep pretending it's not there.
Hello, did someone mention pie? I'll mow your lawn and weed eat for some pie. Nah, I'm totally lying about the last part - but I'll bring some Whiskey.
Word verification (the second one): cpiem. It's like it's saying "See Pie...mmmmm...send to Suze immediately.
Going outside is for suckers. Injuries will teach you that.
Mowing the lawn SUCKS. You know in my neighborhood ALL the women mow their yards? Except the guy with the rider. WTH is with that? I told Mike our first year there, "Don't be getting any fancy ideas in your head!" Christ, I work! Isn't that progressive enough?
(And also? I had to mow my mom's acre yard for six years. I'm done with that crap.)
Now I am CRAVING rhubarb. You're so lucky to have it in your back yard!
Aren't oatmeal squares 'da Bomb????? Great with milk, by the handful, and even in yogurt.
I have you BEAT. I've been married nearly 21 years and have NEVER mowed a lawn. Ever.
