Exciting? Um...not so much. Unless you think lettuce is exciting...

Not much cooking this weekend.

Too busy.

I did have Thai take-out Saturday night: my favorite laab (or larb) salad with chicken (sometimes tofu or beef), chiles, kaffir lime and fish sauce served with lettuce, cucumbers and sticky rice.

And two crispy tofu spring rolls.

And I had this deliciousness all to myself as the Mr. was busy getting his geek on with an old friend at a Comic Book Convention.

Yes. Seriously.

Comic. Book. Convention.

No, I don't want to talk about it.

When I placed my order at the Thai restaurant (which was NOT busy at all), the 13 year-old-looking girl told me that it would be a "while" as I had ordered the sticky rice as an extra (sorry, you don't eat this salad without it- it's horrifying to even consider the thought.)

I said "That's o.k, I need to run to Walgreens anyways". And off I went down the block to peruse the drugstore makeup selections and make the ever-importand decision: Us, or People?

I tend to linger in Walgreens- I can seriously spend an hour there, walking back and forth in the makeup, making the salesclerks nervous.

I purchased this new-to-me product there, and I think I'm in love. (Boys, think about sports here for a minute as I briefly discuss makeup.)
Some of you know how devoted I am to my Terra tints lip stuff. This new product is easily 99% as awesomely awesome. Light, sheer, shiny, good but not overpowering color. Highly recommended. (end makeup discussion.)

Anyhoo- I go back to the restaurant, approximately 1/2 hour later, and the same girl just stands there, staring at me blankly.

Me: "Is my order ready?"

Her: "Um, yeah. It's going to be a while. The sticky rice takes longer, you know."
(I look to my left and count 3 people eating sticky rice at that exact same moment)

Me: "Um, yeah, I know. O.k. Do you have any idea how long it will be?"

Her: "Why?"
(What? How is "why?" an answer? What the fuck do you mean- "WHY?")
Um...o.k.

Me: "Well, I thought I'd run one more errand but I just wanted to know how long I have."

Her: "What errand?"

Me: (pausing, thinking WHAT THE FUCK? What an odd question. What the hell do you care? Excuse me, Miss, have you been hit on the head lately? Taken any pills from strangers? Hmm...?)
"I'm going to the liquor store. I'll be back." I turned on my heel and marched out.

I went down the street, had a beer at a bar, stopped at the liquor store, and meandered down Grand Avenue- killing approximately 45 minutes in the process.
When I went back to the restaurant, my order was just coming out of the kitchen. Some days the universe just likes to play Russian roulette with my patience, it seems.

But it was delicious. Worth a 1.25+ hour wait? The jury's still out on that one. Whatever.

Moving on now...

I did make sort of a "greek-ish" pizza last night, but pizza is so easy I don't really count it as cooking. I'm at work so I can't post a pic. Use your imagination.

The catering was weird, but fine. I guess I don't really know for sure. I just sort of left when my work was done. I don't have patience for waiting around at these things. If you can't be around at the end to say whatever you need to say post-meal, too bad- I'm done. Just make sure my check arrives this week, or you're going to hear from me, that's for damn sure.

And...that's it. That was my weekend.

About as exciting as plain yogurt, but still kind of nice.

Anyone else eat anything interesting this weekend?

Yay! No more freaky baby!

I had some really good Mexican food and a fantastic margarita down in the southern suburbs.

r- I wasn't sure if I was going to post at all today, but it sounded like I needed to. I didn't want you to be having scary old-man-baby dreams on my account.

Hubby and I had Italian for our anniversary dinner. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the dish I had but it was pasta with prawns, artichokes, feta and olives tossed with a lemon, olive oil something else sauce ...
Good thing I'm not a caterer...my descriptions are for shit... but I do remember that it was yummy and that's all that counts right ?

well...it wasn't THIS weekend, but I did have a most interesting dish recently at an upscale pub type restraunt near here. It was FABULOUS! I was trying really hard to branch out and try new things, and I really really REALLY wanted the scallops, which I almost always get and then I saw this neat squash dish on the menu..you know what..this is kind of turning into a post, so that's what I'll do, I'll post about it later this week. It was FAB though. absolutely FAB. Yay for branching out and trying new things.
I don't know how you held it together with that 1 hour + wait. I think I'd have left and gotten my food somewhere else..

Introduction:
It's weird to me how parallel our sitchs are...are you Bizarro Me or am I Bizarro You?

1) I do want to talk about it. My bathrooms and night tables have become overrun with comic books, make that graphic novels in the past 5 years (What's that? Oh yes, in the time that I've been with My Guy.)

2) We had a waitress/bitch at the neighburhood pub who came around at her leisure, meaning: waaaaaay late, and said to my friend, who had just that second joined us, "Umm, yeah, it would be better if you ordered sooner than later because I'm getting really busy."

!!!!!!!

I ate here this weekend

And it was very tasty. Had the scallops, gumbo and cochon de lait.

Oh I forgot to mention that I had really good pig candy yesterday. Bacon cooked with sugar on top. It is very addictive.

I also love drug stores. Something about all the possibilities... Usually I get transfixed by the hair products.

Hostess blueberry mini muffins, McDonald's, hot dogs, glazed donuts, and Culver's. As you can tell, it was a weekend of very exotic culinary delights. AKA, one spent on the road in Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois eating fast food.

I had a grilled chicken salad where they actually grilled the lettuce. Fresh parm cheese. Delicious.

I had deliberately cold little cups of potato leek soup at a wedding. Is that normal? Is that some fancy cooking thing I don't know about?

Also, damn you with your lip gloss recommendation. You're an enabler, I say. ;-)

How do you wait OVER AN HOUR for food? I am hungry every minute of every day. I would have stabbed someone.

This weekend, I ate a burger with Granny Smith apple slices and brie on top. It was heaven. Last weekend was liquid nitrogen cocktails. Mmm.

Christina- mmm...gnocchi. Little puffy pillows of potato-y love.

E&ILTIPH/WM- Other than the prawns, which I consider the centipedes of the sea, it sounds delicious.

Stacie- Good for you for trying new things! The one+ hour wait was only made possible with sweet, sweet beer.

Lol- both bizarro scenarios are true. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Sean- I'll be looking up the link when I'm done here. And, holy god of pork products the sugary bacon thing makes me want to go out and kiss pigs, it's so perfect. That stuff is like crack to me.

amaya- I KNOW! I think I like perusing Walgreens more than somewhere like Sephora. Seriously.

h- I love the occasional junk-food weekend, but only once in a while. My innards and my ass size cannot tolerate more than that.

Suze- Yes, the grilled lettuce rocks! I've had it before and it opened up a whole new world, I swear. Grilled greens changed my life. But then again, so did easy cheese, for what it's worth.

Stefanie- Yes, that's a fancy pants soup called vichyssiose (vish-ee-SWAH). Damn French and their snooty soups...
And, I love recruiting others into my evil lip product cult. Hahahaha!

malia- As to the long wait, refer to my reply to Stacie's comment.
Beer.
I LOVE the odd and interesting culinary expeditions you seem to have had lately. The burger sounds decadent and awesome, and I will be googling "nitrogen cocktails" as soon as I'm done here.

ARG. I just bought a new lip gloss! Why do you tempt me so??

ok From someone who makes rice all the time(the good stuff), it should only take about 20 minutes. You should go cuss that girl out. Unless it really was worth it, but that must be some serious rice.

I'll be making some spring rolls this week.

When you talk about makeup, I hear birdsong.

You have mentioned it before on my site, but I have to state again for the record that I like Mr. WM because he goes to Comic Book Conventions, and I like you because you are married to a guy who goes to Comic Book Conventions.

And while I didn't eat anything interesting this weekend, my girlfriend and I both wore a delightful barbeque sauce when the waitress bounced the container off the floor and splashed the contents all over us. That's always a good time.

I made a Rachel Ray recipe soup: pumpkin black bean soup with curry and tomatos in it. Pretty darn good.

I made cupcakes. Pink, Sprinkly cupcakes. Then I ate FOUR of them. And then when I went to dinner at my mom's, I got a look at the "meat" and decided to fill up on Ranch doritos and duplex cookies.

I live a very gourmet life.

Whiskeymarie said...

Metalia- because I can. Because I can.
;)

Lil Pea- I know I should have left, but I wanted THAT meal so bad...
Eat a spring roll or two for me, I've been too lazy to make them lately.

McGone- I hear BBQ sauce is the new black.

Monkey- No problem- beef, tofu, chicken or Yak?

Chiada- that soup DOES sound good- even if it came from Satan's cheerleader.

Butrfly- You know my love of the Dorito. And cake.
Gourmet, shormet.

Chiada said...

"Satan's cheerleader". You're too much.

Actually, Hub-E wants me to make this soup "the natural way" by using fresh ingredients that I actually have to chop myself instead of using canned food. Oh the horror!

So, I need pumpkin, tomatos, black beans, an onion, vegetable stock, curry, cumin, cayenne, and heavy cream. I suppose it would taste better being fresh, plus it might not give us the indigestion that it did. Guess I need to get to the farmer's market.
