Go fill two gallon-size ziplocs with buttery grits. Then stuff them down the back of your pants. Now you know how I feel after this glorious trip.
Ahhh...
We're back. Full of jambalaya, grits, muffalettas and enough cocktails to give a Frat party a run for their money.
I got my luggage, FINALLY around 7:00 on Tuesday night, after three angry and fake-tearful phone calls to Delta's "luggage handling center" and a lie about needing my prescription medication that I had checked and desperately needed.
Shut up! I was having a Flonase emergency. And possibly a "Holy crap my fuzzy, dirty windblown hair needs Aveda NOW!!!" emergency as well.
And dammit- I only packed 2 pairs of unders in my carry on and I'd be damned if I was going to scrub my delicates in the bathroom sink and hang them from the shower curtain to dry.
I wouldn't have even been so pissed if they would have just told me the truth. "Having" to go out and buy new stuff isn't exactly a bummer for me, you know? But the fuckers kept telling me "any time now..." so like a dumbass I kept waiting. And waiting. And waiting. So pretty much 1/2 of my trip was spent having fun, but worrying about my stupid luggage and believing the dirty lies that Delta Airlines slipped into my cocktail.
And it was hard to make dinner plans, not knowing if the super cute dresses that I packed for the express purpose of wearing to dinner were going to be there or not.
I'll give you the whole trip/food/fun rundown in a bit, I need to organize my thoughts/pictures/etc... a bit first.
But I am very very happy that my pretty new monkey luggage is back with me, along with all of my lady-belongings squished inside, where they will most likely sit until a week from now when I finally get off of my giant jambalaya-filled butt and clean it out.
Full trip post coming shortly...

Whoo hoo - you got your luggage and you got stuffed with all the goods that Nawlins has to offer.
That luggage thing sucks. Airlines suck though, don't they? But still- we need them.
Anyway, longing to hear more. I think I may have to mix myself a Hurricane just at the thought of it.
Delta blows diseased goats.
The bastards lost our luggage last year and we both had to miss a day of work while we waited at my parents' house. Missing work is awesome, of course, but only when it's your choice.
I'd be more pissed about losing the awesome suitcase than the belongings inside.
Glad you made it back safe! We didn't make it to New Orleans, afterall- I couldn't seem to pry myself off of the beach! My husband promises as soon as I find a cheap flight we'll make it down there. Can't wait to hear all about your trip.
Welcome home! Glad you got your stuff back, though you and Joe are freakin' me out . . . I'm taking Delta to Cabo on Saturday.
gwen- I am someone who always assumes her luggage will be lost, so I always plan out and pack enough in my carryon to get me through a few days, if need be.
Just make sure you have enough mix & match lightweight stuff in your carry on, plus any toiletries you may need.
For a tropical trip I would put the following in my not-too-big (seriously- it's really just a good sized messenger bag) carryon:
*swimsuit (two if you have room)
*black or brown flip flops
*sarong/wrap thingy (works as a shirt/coverup/dress in a pinch
*simple summer dress or two (pick the most lightweight ones you have)
*white t-shirt
*colored t-shirt
*pair of shorts
*lightweight skirt
*scarf/bandanna for my head
*sunglasses
*unders
Minimal toiletries: sunscreen, tinted moisturizer, mascara, lip stuff, 1 or 2 hair products, toothbrush/paste aspirin & vitamins.
Check the rest, hope for the best.
The key is to make it all stuff you can mix & match successfully, and things you could supplement with whatever clothes you would have to buy once you're there. You can always buy a few things once you're there if need be.
Mmmmmmmmm, jambalaya butt.
WM: That's an awesome plan and since I haven't even gotten my suitcase out of the basement yet, I can put your plan into action w/o any trouble! You rock, sister. MWAH!
Oh I cannot WAIT to hear all about it! I've always wanted to go there so I'm excited to hear about your trip. And oh...that glorious food! YUM! I'm so jealous!
Stacie
I have heard the most horrific stories about Delta, including a friend who was stranded in NY with no place to stay and 2 small children in tow. They did little to help.
*giggle* Oh yeah, I forgot about New Orleans hair. Good times. ;)
You are so smart to pack a change of clothes in your carry on. If my luggage got lost, I'd be stuck with nothing but a novel, an iPod and an issue of Women's Health to my name.
I await the food report. Glad you survived. Hvae fun.
Welcome back!
Mmmm...jambalaya. Now I'm not going to be able to focus on anything else today.
The second I read "giant jambalaya-filled" I immediately thought DONUT! Don't ask...I don't know, I guess the hormones are getting to me.
Is everyone going to NO nowdays?
I'm jealous.
I am so looking forward to the trip post. Glad you got your luggage back. And don't get me started about yummy buttery grits, which I ate for breakfast every day in North Carolina.
traveling
I would not have had the foresight to pack two pair of underwear in the carry-on.
FINALLY someone else who doesn't get the hype about Cafe du Monde. My sister couldn't wait to take me there, and I was utterly bewildered with what the fuss is all about. Chicory coffee? UGH.
I liked New Orleans, but my favorite part of the trip was touring the antebellum mansions on the River Road.
DAMN IT!!! Wrong post to post that comment on.
