Maybe next time I'll show you the inside of my coat closet.

As I love love love hearing/seeing/reading about the more mundane aspects of people's lives (what you ate for dinner, what you wore today, what's in your fridge, how many trips to the can you've made today, etc...), I thought I'd give you a glimpse of a teeny corner of my everyday life.

I cook a lot at home, and I hate having to go into the pantry for stuff I use several times a day, so I just leave them on the stove- always in the same spots due to both my proclivity for tipsy cooking as well as my having a wee bit of the ol' OCD.

Behold the stuff I keep on the top of my vintage (1950) stove:

  • An antique timer with a rocket dial
  • A jar shaped like the Liberty Bell for toothpicks, etc.
  • An antique pin on the jar that says "I love Duluth"
  • Squirrel S&P shakers that don't seem to get along very well as every few days they migrate further and further apart. I'm sending them to counseling soon.
  • A vintage Pyrex teapot that I always have on the stove, despite the fact that I just heat water in the microwave for tea.
  • A wine bottle full of olive oil with a spout that I just refill over and over.
  • Coarse sea salt
  • A cup with a mixture of black pepper, white pepper and fine sea salt
  • A pepper mill
  • A jar of honey, mostly I eat it drizzled on Fage Greek yogurt or I put it in tea
  • Salt & pepper shakers that I never, ever use yet I keep them there.
The End. I know- thrilling.

Happy Sunday, my end of the weekend sad little worker bees. Happy Sunday.

XO

I could never FUNCTION with that mishmash of items on my stove ... and yet I sort of admire it. ;-)

You are the best! I won't show you my antique timer, exactly like yours, or my vintage apartment sized gas stove, or my sea salt container as it might freak you out and make you think you'll turn out like me. No, it'll never happen. Don't worry.

I thought the squirrels were Nerds at first until I enlarged the picture, which I always do with your pictures, because the beauty is always in the details.
I would love to see pictures of your WHOLE kitchen, because I'm a weirdo like that.
If I could, I'd have everything old, vintage-y and kitchy in my kitchen. I'm working on it.

I have such squirrel envy!

I tend to keep my stove top out of my pictures because, well, it's generally got crap caked on it.

You showed us yours so I'm showing you mine.

Or telling you anyway.

I have a Pillsbury Doughboy and salt & pepper shakers...

Oh and I think I went to the crapper about 6 times yesterday.

So there you go.

HEY!! I have the same mismash!! Only my countertop is the resting place for said items.

Salt/pepper (no fancy shakers, though), olive oil, vanilla, red wine vinegar, GOOD olive oil (for bread dipping) and...um.....oh.....balsamic.

We are sisters.

I know, my squirrels rarely get along also.

I also have two sets of salt and pepper shakers on my stove...and I only use one. And why do we have tea pots if we never use? Thanks for sharing.

I have a thing for hilarious and weird salt & pepper shakers. If I had more space, I'd have a collection. So suffice to say, I love the squirrels. :)

Speaking of your closet....

I think it's time I take a weekend trip to Saint Paul...

Monkey told me how nice it is.

I have a line-up of bottles of stuff at the back of my cooktop - vinegar of three varieties, oil (olive and canola) hot sauce, spices....whatever. It's more convenient.

But I don't have squirrels!! Must correct that soon!
